Today has been one of those days I really should have stayed in bed. No, really.
It started off with a phone call from a friend asking me if Bryan was alright...
She watches the news. I don't- and for this very reason!
She heard that a commuter biker was riding through South Side today (where Bryan rides on a daily basis to school) and cut off a car and the person in the car was ticked off enough to knock the biker off his bike and slit his throat. She didn't know who it was but the person was in surgery and supposedly was going to live.
Do you feel sick right now? I do. *shudder* I can't even write it without cringing.
So I call Bryan.
No answer.
Longest hour of my life!
But he called back and was was talking about 'going to play basketball for lunch'...so I assumed he wasn't the guy in major surgery. But I did warn him that he better not cut off any cars on his way home. I kinda like having him around.
30 minutes later I had taken the kids to the Splash Park (a park we visit frequently) on the other side of town. Today there was only me and 2 other mom's there with their kids.
We are playing in the water and I heard a noise that sounded a bit alarming, but I decided my imagination was overactive and brushed it away.
About 5 minutes later the Parks and Rec employee that was emptying the trash cans came up to me and 'didn't want to alarm me' but told me that she was pretty sure she just heard a gun shot. And there was a bullet hole in her trash bag to prove it.
She 'was sorry for the inconvenience but wanted to close the park. (I doubt it was her fault somebody was shooting a gun...)
Uh, no problem lady. I was putting Heath in the stroller before she was half way done with her first sentence. I hauled you-know-what to my car and threw them in soaking wet. I was about to leave when the mom parked in front of me loading up her infant in the car says- 'there is a bullet hole in my car!".
What the eff!??? Yup. I saw it with my own eyes. Definitely a bullet hole. She went back to talk to the rec lady who was calling the cops...(crazy. I was LONG GONE!) (and thinking HOLY CRAP. That was really close to my car....followed by a hoard of other horrendous thoughts of 'what could have been')
5 minutes later...
I am driving home and on the freeway, and some idiot was pretty much stopped in half-way in my lane because he was missing his exit and trying to correct it by being a moron. I slowed down almost to a stop so I wouldn't hit him. But the lady behind me wasn't paying attention and rear-ended me.
I really should have stayed in bed today.
The good news is that all member of my little family are safe and sound. My car didn't even get a dent! (because I have a good ole' bike hitch on the back side that took a whopping chunk out of the oblivious lady behind me's car.)
Yikes, glad you're all okay! These are the kind of things that tell me that yes, there is a God... and no, it's not your time!
ReplyDeletewow that is a story for the books for sure!! You will be talking about this day for a while!! So crazy!
ReplyDeletehaha i have to admit that your stories really make me miss Pittsburgh! I mean, you'll never live in the "hood" again so live it up :) soo funny Jamie!
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOSH Jamie i am so so glad you are all alright! Especially that Brian was not the biker! how insane!!
ReplyDeletecrazy crazy
ReplyDeletewow! maybe it wasn't such a bad idea to move. glad everyone's ok!
ReplyDeleteThis is scary and oh-so-very-real for a recent hoodlum. :) The area that splash park is in was enough to send shivers up my spine. Now I feel more validated. Try the Brookline splash park instead, it's slightly less frightening. And don't ever get rid of your bike hitch!
ReplyDeleteSo, So sorry, Jamie! What a crappy day! I know the feeling when you can't get a hold of your husband. No fun at all, then being shot at and rear ended. You definitely win for the worst day in history....well close to it, anyway! I'm so glad to hear that everyone is okay.
ReplyDeleteI love your last comment on my blog. Thank you so much for leaving a comment once and a while. It really means a lot! I've been doing pretty good running. I usually do 3-4 times a week. It's not far but at least I'm getting out and doing it. I really just need to get my butt out of bed in the mornings and go. Aiden is finally sleeping a little better so maybe I'll start. I've had issues with my lower back (I blame it on child birth..) and will hopefully be getting that fixed soon. I have an appointment tomorrow with a dr to take a look at it. I am really feeling old these days!
Hopefully you get some sleep tonight and wake up to a better day tomorrow!
Holy cow!! All of that in one day? You deserve a giant hot fudge sundae or some other fabulous treat tonight. Wow! Glad you are all okay! What a day!
ReplyDeleteWOW! I think you better move back to Flagstaff. I can't believe your day . . . very, very scary. Just so you know, we use vimeo.com for our videos. I'll be honest though Ben does it all. If you have any questions, let me know and I can have him email you.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap!!! I can't believe that all happened in one day! That is seriously crazy. I guess I can't complain about a small little town. Anyways, no, haven't had the baby yet, unfortunately! If nothing has happened by Thursday my dr said he would induce me.. still not sure how I feel about that though as much as I'm ready for him to come. I think that comment was from a different Ashley, mine always post as "Thompson Family" Anyways, hopefully I will have some good news to share with you soon!
ReplyDeleteMiss you!
